We are proud to have worked with the team at the Orthopaedic Research Institute (ORI) on a range of innovative solutions, including projects to support ORI's pioneering work in robotic hip replacement surgery.
Housed at Bournemouth University, and led by Professor Robert Middleton and Professor Tom Wainwright, ORI is at the forefront of healthcare revolution. It works with hospitals and industry partners to produce high quality academic and patient outcomes across the fields of orthopaedic surgery, related diseases, treatments, technologies and devices.
Fontis provided the technical know-how to develop the innovative Robotic Hip Replacement Demonstrator. Originally created to help patients understand the process of a total hip replacement (THR), the demonstrator has also proved valuable in clinical training. Housed at Bournemouth's prestigious Nuffield Hospital, it uses touch screen technology and a physical surgical instrument device to simulate surgical techniques.
In addition to the demonstrator, Fontis also worked with ORI to develop an interactive course to support robotic hip surgery training, designed for surgeons and their teams to understand how a successful robotic hip replacement can be performed. The course auses footage from inside a virtual operating theatre to allow immersive learning. Its digital format means it can provide access to training on a global scale.
The Robotic Hip Replacement demonstrator has been a great success. It showcases research and development at Bournemouth University and introduces healthcare professionals to the advances in AI robotics using virtual reality.
Whether you need support with a particular project or simply want to chat about how technology could bring your ideas to life, we’d love to hear from you.
